From Our Blog
What a great weekend at Bartleby's! It was great to be open again, if only for the weekend and with our limited inventory. Our customers, friends and neighbors were so supportive. We can't wait until we open fully in November.
Also, many thanks to my children, Ally and Zach, and their friends Julia, Noura, Ella, Jillian and James for running the best darn lemonade stand ever. The kids raised $661 for the Wilmington VT Flood Relief Fund. Thanks for supporting their efforts.
Thanks to Bartleby's staff for volunteering their time and energy this weekend and thanks to Pamela, Dawno and Khaled for bringing the extra energy from Rhode Island. Thanks to Phil for getting the store to a place where we could host this sale.
This weekend really lifted our spirits!
Thanks to all,
Bartleby's has weathered the storm and we are busy getting the store back on its feet! When you come through Wilmington for some Columbus Day Weekend leaf-peeping be sure to stop by the store and peruse the offerings on hand at our three-day tent sale. We'll have books galore, as well as games and gifts to suit everyone's fancy. Plus, some of our bookstore-kids, Ally and Zach, will be running their famous lemonade stand (all lemonade proceeds to benefit Wilmington Flood Relief). We'll be open for business Saturday through Monday, October 8th to the 10th, from 11am to 4pm. Come pay us a visit!

It is with a heavy heart that I write this post about the flooding in Wilmington. Bartleby's is currently closed (as is the whole of downtown Wilmington) due to devastating flooding. We have lost the majority of our inventory as well as all of our shelving and we'll require extensive renovations, but the building is sound and we are one of the more fortunate sites in the village. Some buildings washed away down river and others have been condemned. The incredible strength and support that we have experienced over the last few days has been the lifeline we've needed. Friends and neighbors have come together to help our community. The downtown businesses are getting cleaned up more quickly with so much volunteer help.
Bartleby's will reopen and we will do whatever we can to help other businesses and individuals affected. We are blessed to live and work in this community. Wilmington will be put back together!
We will post updates as we have them. Thank you for your support.

A few details for the Rick Riordan event this evening:
Online and phone ordering for signing line tickets are now CLOSED. The doors will open to the River Garden at 4pm and we'll see you there. You can buy your book and get your signing line ticket at the event.
The event itself is free and open to the public. Rick will speak briefly and answer questions from the audience before signing books. We'll have activities for kids (and their grownups!) to do while they wait. A few refreshments will be on sale.
Rick will sign up to two books per person. In order to get a signing line ticket (required for getting books signed), you must purchase a copy of The Kane Chronicles 2: Throne of Fire from The Book Cellar or Bartleby's.
Thanks and see you tonight!
The Book Cellar may be down due to fire, but our commitment to readers is still strong. Along those lines, we are continuing with the RICK RIORDAN event on Friday, May 6th at River Garden during Gallery Walk. For details, visit www.bookcellarvt.com or call Bartleby's Books at 802-464-5425. If you can't make the event, contact us to order a signed copy. We ship anywhere in the US. More details below.
RICK RIORDAN, AUTHOR OF THE LIGHTING THIEF, STRIKES BRATTLEBORO!
The Book Cellar is thrilled to bring Rick Riordan, bestselling author of the Percy Jackson series, to Brattleboro for a book signing party for his new book THE KANE CHRONICLES, BOOK TWO: THE THRONE OF FIRE. Join us during the Friday, May 6th Gallery Walk for a chance to meet Rick and have him sign books for you. Our fun-filled party is being held at the River Garden in downtown Brattleboro with doors opening at 4:00. All are welcome at this free event. Tickets to the signing line are available with the purchase of THE THRONE OF FIRE.
The Book Cellar, a Brattleboro institution for 63 years, did suffer devastating damage during The Brooks House Fire, along with so many other members of our community. Nonetheless, our spirit remains unbroken, and we can’t wait to share this splendid event with our community. We know fans of The Book Cellar and Rick Riordan will come out in force.
To obtain your signing line ticket and purchase a copy of THE THRONE OF FIRE, call Bartleby’s Books at 802-464-5425, email us at email@example.com, or order online 24 hours a day at www.bookcellarvt.com. Donations in support of residents of The Brooks House Apartments may be made at the door all evening long.

In celebration of Poetry Month, The Book Cellar is holding a Guess the Poet raffle. Here's how it works: come by the store and take a gander at the poem we have featured in our April window display. Guesses may be submitted for multiple poets, but only one submission per poet will be accepted. For example: if you think the mystery poet is Emily Dickinson, you may place her name in the drawing one time. If you think the mystery poet may be Emily Dickinson OR Charles Bukowski, you may enter a submission of each author one time. A winner will be drawn at the end of the day on April 30th. A $10 gift certificate (redeemable at either The Book Cellar or Bartleby's Books) awaits the conquering champion!
Book Cellar regulars Addy and Mark added their guesses to the raffle. Mark's take the on mystery poet, "We read a lot of Neruda, and I don't think it's Neruda."
All aboard, train buffs! The wait is almost over! Brian A. Donelson's THE COMING OF THE TRAIN, VOLUME II will be available in early May. Over two years in the making, this volume offers the same meticulously researched and documented information that avid readers of railroad history have been clamouring for. Continue the journey through the creation of the Hoosac Tunnel and the Wilmington and Deerfield River Railroads in this much anticipated second volume.

The response we have received to our event this coming Sunday (March 27) with Jacques d'Amoise has been phenomenal! Reserved seating is no longer available. However, our doors will remain open to all with or without a reserved seat. At the start of the reading any unclaimed seats will become available, and space for standing-room will be provided.
We look forward to sharing Sunday afternoon with you all!
