VERMONT WILD author Megan Price will share behind the scenes stories of her hilarious best selling books and autograph copies for shoppers seeking a special Father’s Day gift, Saturday, June 9th, from 1 to 3 pm right here at Bartleby’s Books.
A long-time journalist and former state legislator, Price’s VERMONT WILD Volume One and Two rocketed to the top of the best seller list at independent bookstores throughout the state, two years running. The true wacky warden adventures are a hit with readers aged 9 to 99.
Volume One recounts the misadventures of retired warden Eric Nuse of Johnson as he wrestles with lovesick moose, rioting raccoons, wily poachers and designs a near disastrous dynamite blast. Volume Two includes a few more of Nuse’s tales and introduces readers to more veteran wardens. Stories here include tricking a trapper, barbed wire blunders, a dog named Satan and a dozen more true Vermont stories that have become instant classics.
“Teachers read VERMONT WILD out loud in schools to encourage reading. Hunters take the books to hunting camp. I’ve been told nursing homes use the stories to spur individuals’ memories of their own outdoor adventures,” Price said. “People of all ages and backgrounds love the stories and illustrations. ”
On a more serious note, Price adds, “These wardens are unsung heroes. Without their years of hard work and dedication, we would not have the wildlife we all enjoy today. “
As a special benefit to the Wilmington area, Price has donated two sets of both volumes, each signed by all of the wardens profiled within the books. Bartleby's is holding a raffle in which two winners will be chosen each of whom will receive a set. Raffle tickets are available at Bartleby's for $5. All proceeds benefit the Rebuild Dots fund.VERMONT WILD has been featured on Vermont Public Radio, has twice earned a mention on Publisher’s Weekly website and has sold thousands of copies. Published in paperback by Pine Marten Press, the books feature a water resistant cover to encourage readers to stuff the books into a backpack and read the stories in the woods. Each volume sells for $19.95.
